The Institute for Machine Components has two electrical tension test benches with drive outputs of 44.3 kW and 460 kW. The test benches can be used to carry out both individual measurements and service life tests on drive train elements such as gear drives or toothed belts. The test specimen is clamped between two electric motors. This design allows any load spectrum to be tested. The test benches have speed and torque measurement technology on the input and output side. Due to the low moments of inertia of the test bench motors and the absence of mechanical tensioning with auxiliary gears, very highly dynamic load spectra are possible without any problems.

In 2023, both test benches were equipped with new control systems (model: Speedgoat Performance Machine). This combined the measurement data acquisition and control/regulation in one system for both test benches. Thanks to the real-time capable control with MATLAB-Simulink, hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) tests are possible without restrictions with this system. The system is modular and can be supplemented with any number of IO boards. The system also enables the direct implementation and execution of AI algorithms in the control system. The control system can therefore be completely based on AI.
