Support Association of the Institute
Verein zur Förderung der Lehre und Forschung des Instituts für Maschinenelemente (IMA) der Universität Stuttgart e.V. (IMA-Förderverein / IMA-Support Association)
The aim of the association is to promote science and the exchange of experience in the field of scientific research and research-related teaching in the fields of activity of the Institute of Machine Components (IMA) at the University of Stuttgart: machine components, construction technology,, drive technology, CAD, sealing technology, reliability engineering and railway vehicle technology.
The association supports a mutually agreed coordination of teaching and research activities and provides initiatives for a deeper exchange of opinions and information. It promotes scientific and personal contact among all members.
The association fulfills this task mainly through the following activities:
- organizing a colloquium for its members at least once a year to discuss the development of teaching and research,
- promoting contacts among the former members of the institute and the regular exchange of experiences with the IMA
- organization of the awarding of the Gisbert-Lechner-Prize
Current and former employees of the Institute of Machine Components can apply for membership, furthermore all natural persons, authorities and associations of persons whose activities or professional interests are related to the objectives of the association.

Gisbert-Lechner Prize
The Gisbert-Lechner Prize is awarded for innovative master theses, dissertations or industrial works in the fields of machine components, ocnstruction engineering, drive technology, CAD, sealing technology and reliability engineering. The award is made in memory and in the spirit of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gisbert Lechner, who died in 2002 and who researched and worked very successfully in the above-mentioned fields. The promotion of young scientists and innovative industrial work was always important to him. He wanted to honor outstanding work with a special prize. With this in mind, the Gisbert Lechner Prize is to be awarded.
Proposals for the award can be submitted by members and students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Stuttgart and by members of the association to the prize committee. The decision is made by the prize committee (by a majority decision).
