Since the flowing processes in the sealing gap of dynamic sealing systems are in most cases not accessible to direct measurement, the aim of this research project is to investigate the lubricant film structure and the lubricant redirection in narrow sealing gaps by means of elastohydrodynamic (EHD) theory in a simulative manner. For the efficient numerical execution of EHD simulations, the Institute for Machine Elements has developed the program IMA-FFSim. This allows to examine the hydrodynamic pressure and the hydrodynamic gap height as well as other sealing parameters such as the delivery value and the frictional torque by simulating a large number of sealing systems.
