Printing service

For printouts of student work and for CAD printouts various printers are available to students in Faculties 4, 6 and 7.

3D Printing service

The 3D printer is available to every student. Semester projects, bachelor, study and master theses can be printed here. For this we need the 3D file either in *.stl (monochrome) or in *.vrml (color) format. The size can then be adjusted directly by us, as the build space is limited to about 20x25x20cm. Please note that printing is not possible if the wall thickness is too thin (<2-3mm), as the models are relatively brittle and therefore unstable after printing.

Working principle

Image CAD data preparation

The CAD data is stored in the
STL or VRML format

Image Printing layer by layer

During printing, layer after layer of binder and ink is applied to the powder - the table with the powder moves downwards in the process

The excess powder is extracted and recycled while still in the machine

Image 1 Cleaning model

To clean the model, the remaining powder is removed with a fine brush or with compressed air

This is how the model looks before the hardening application

The model gets its final strength after a final bath in a special hardener
